In 1989 Exxon’s tanker spilled 11 million gallons of thick, deadly crude oil into Alaska’s pristine Prince William Sound, killing hundreds of thousands of seals, otters, birds, fish and whales.

Even today – 16 years later – ExxonMobil is still trying to get out of paying full damages to Alaska fishermen and natives harmed by their spill, despite making a record $25 billion in profits last year!

And now Exxon is making headlines again. Just last month ExxonMobil hired Philip Cooney, a former White House staffer who recently resigned after the New York Times revealed that he edited government reports on global warming to reflect the oil industry’s position... [*]

One should note that in sixteen years at 4% interest, Exxon's debt should have doubled. Or put another way, by stiffing the victims for this long Exxon has made as much off the Valdez as it would have paid. But that's not enough, they're still not going to pay.
